I Have The Don't Know How My Oil To Put In My Car Blues Again

This happened once before, but I forget when.  Anyway, I checked the oil in my car in anticipation of bringing it into the dealership Thursday -- not for the car, necessarily, but for getting a new spare key fob.  The dealership is going to "check everything" anyway, and I figure that ... well, come to think of it, it wouldn't have hurt of I didn't check the oil, but I surmise that if it's a little low, the dealership will use that to tell me that my car is in bad shape and it needs $3,000 worth of repairs.  Don't know why I thought that I could avoid that upselling if I put in a little more oil.

(sigh) Anyway (again), I saw that the level was half-full/half-empty, and so I decided to use the rest of the bottle of oil that's in my car and threw it into my engine.  It was only a quarter of a quart.  And yet, when I checked the oil level, it was as if I had thrown a brand new bottle into it.  Its level was all over the damn place.  I thought it would only go up a little bit!  And this crap has happened before!  And I keep making the same mistake again!  Or is it a mistake?  (sigh again)

Well, I'm hoping I didn't overfill the engine.  It seemed fine going home, and besides, if adding a quarter of a quart destroys my car, I don't know why they make cars that are that finicky.  Hey, if I did overfill it, maybe the dealership can let me know ... or yell at me, or tell me I've destroyed my car, or something.
