It's been killing me the past several days. But even though I'm not sure it's the reason I woke up (my body clock is now just used to waking up the same time as normal people), when I woke up just now my back was ailing me like a motherfucker.
Not too long ago I mentioned here how good my back felt even though I had not been doing the exercises prescribed to me. Maybe now it's catching up to me.
In case something really bad happens, I want to note this now.
United States Constitution, Article I, Section 9, Clause 8: "No Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign State."

I Don't Want My Folks Fucking Getting Into My Business
My Father just spoke to me over the phone. Horrible timing, seeing as that I totally missed The Bastard Houston Oilers scoring in the Wild Card game. But it was the nature of his call that kind of angers me.
He didn't talk to me about getting lottery tickets. He asked me about the water leaks. Specifically, he said, "What is it about the plumbing? Is there a lot of water?" I have told him about the leaks, but I didn't tell him how bad it really has become.
Told my brother-in-law, though. Kind of intimated it to my sister, too. Both of them I told in the past few days. Meanwhile, I had not told My Father anything about it getting worse. It's not good, but I had not told him it's getting worse, at least not yet.
Look, I kind of am waiting until they get back. And no, it's not great. And I do want them to get this fixed, which means that they have to come back to at least take a look at it. But it looks as though My Father just called me because my sister and brother-in-law told him about the water leaks. And as strange and hypocritical this may sound when it comes to this situation, I hate that. I hate when people tell other people -- in particular my parents -- about my business. Well, OK, the house is not my business alone. But as long as I'm in this house alone, only I should tell people about stuff. I say when and I say how. The control of this information has been taken away from me, without my knowledge, and I resent that.
---
Which brings up another thing. It was either yesterday or the day before when I went onto Facebook, where Mother (or at least I think it's Mother) sent me a friend request. Why the fuck does Mother want to be my Facebook friend? She's my mother! If I accept it, she's going to see all my hot model Facebook friends, and then she'll get into who I really know, and then she'll start to ask goddamn questions about my business, and I don't want anybody all up in my business.
I know this will cause some friction shit. My sister has no problem being Facebook friends with Mother. But you damn I do, and I have no idea why she wants to be my friend. But then how can I reject Mother?
Fuck my life. Now I have to check when in the hell they're coming back.

I'm Counting On You, Shamwow
Or actually it's a chamois; the Shamwows were too expensive and I only wanted two of them. When the box came it appears as though it said it was manufactured by Amazon Basics. Is that Amazon's generic brand or something?
Oh, one other thing. It said to rinse before using. So I threw it in the shower and turned on the main shutoff valves to wet the chamois. Can't rinse it if there's no water trapped in it, right? But then I thought, Wait, aren't I using the chamois now? So either I "activated" it correctly or I've already ruined it.
Oh, well, it seems to have trapped a lot of water, so I'm going to wrap it around one of the pipes and hope that, when I take a shower after exercising in a little bit, I won't have to worry about mopping the floor. That's why I bought these things.

Miss The World News Polka
Realized waking up this morning/just now that last night/this morning would have been the perfect time to stay up and watch ABC's World News Now. When I didn't have a job and didn't give a damn about staying up, I found out that the three big broadcast networks would devote their overnights to the news. NBC had Nightwatch, which seemed recorded, and CBS had Up To The Minute, which played on a loop every hour.
But the big one, the good one, the only that's still on in sort of its same form now, is ABC's World News Now. It played on a loop every 90 minutes, but while they did report the news (and did break in if there was any important news happening in the country or the world overnight), they understood that it was a slow period of the news day. And so they would fill it in with other news-like segments. Oftentimes they would be irreverent, sometimes too irreverent. But it was new, creative, and gave people who were up at the time a reason to watch and to come back.
To signal the end of their news week, on the final segment of their show on Fridays, they would end the show with the "World News Polka," WNN's theme song, so to speak. Over the years they have added renditions. There's a string quartet version, one with singing glasses, a garage band, even William Shatner did one. But I always loved tuning in to watch that when I've been able to watch the show all week.
Well, times change, of course. I've had to find work, and it was in the day and therefore I was too tired to stay up. Meanwhile, the budget cuts that made NBC end Nightwatch and revert to reruns and, within the past couple years, CBS decide to strip the guts of Up To The Minute and turn it into the CBS Overnight News, which only involves a reporter introducing canned pieces.
And unfortunately, World News Now has not been immune. I have seen WNN on nights other than Friday. Just saw it Monday/Tuesday, after coming home from New Year's Eve festivities. And it feels less frisky, and a lot less fun. And I have not seen it on Fridays in a long time, so I don't know if they still have the "World News Polka." And sadly, this morning was the last time I probably could see it. Next week I don't have work, but my parents are (or at least should be) home, so I don't know if I can wake up without getting caught. Then every Friday after that I am back to work. So it might be months, maybe many months, before I have a chance to stay up overnight and see the "World News Polka."

Do I Have To Worry About This Car Now?
Finally got my car in to be service this evening. Oil change and tire rotation. But I was reminded when I brought the car in that the last time I was there, I rejected their recommendation of getting their transmission fluid changed.
I rejected then, and I rejected it tonight, because I thought it was the dealership just trying to shake me down for stuff I don't need. But just to be sure, while I was waiting at the dealership, I went online to check if Honda actually said anything about when I should have the tranny fluid changed. And ... it appears as though that many websites said it would behoove me to change it earlier than any sense I have to wait, or the 60,000 miles I had seen in a couple places that purportedly convey what Honda believes should be the time to change it. In other words, when the dealership says they recommend the fluid change, it may be because it's hitting me up for more money, but it may tangentially also be the right thing to do.
Oh, great. But then I thought, Why don't I just check the fluid for myself? Apparently it's supposed to look red; if it looks brown, that's when it's time to change it. If I have the mechanic look at me checking it out (just to make sure I know that I'm doing it right) and it looks really bad, I'd ask them to drain it right then and there. Might as well do it while I'm at the dealership, and they wouldn't just reject my money if I want a service, right?
But I checked the Internet about how to check the transmission fluid, and only then did I realize that my car is one of those newfangled cars that doesn't have a dipstick for tranny fluid. It's one of those self-contained, hermetically-sealed units, so I guess you just wait until you reach 60,000 miles and the dashboard indicates that it should be changed, dissenting voices notwithstanding.
Look, I still think listening to the dealership and not the car company is a ripoff; the dealership is there to make money off of you. So I decided to just let it go. I'm going to wait to get the transmission fluid changed until the car says it should. Have to trust the car -- right?

Whoops, Wait A Second. ...
Just realized this in the minutes before my alarm sounded: In an hour's time or so I am going to an interview for another temp agency. I was asked to bring a list of references. One of the references is a recruiter for the temp agency I'm currently doing business with ... and the one that I found a job with.
Uh, is it dishonest to go looking for temp work when I already have temp work lined up? I could say that I didn't want to break off the interview. I could also say that I thought I was interviewing for a particular job, but that job was taken by the time I set up the interview (that was what the interviewer said), so in essence I'm not really going in for any interview, so why not come in?
I just wonder if someone's going to catch me on something. Not lying per se, but not giving the whole truth. Man, did I pay for a shave and am I going to dress up for something like this?

Guess Where I Am? The Laundromat!
I had to. I had things to wash and dry that even I couldn't wait for. And since the water pipes are leaking out of control, turning the valves on for the hour or so I would need to wash a load, let alone two, would mean that there would be pools of water covering the basement instead of puddles.
So, knowing that I would have time with this forced furlough, I went online to find the best laudromat in the Twin Cities. Yelp actually has a list of these. So even though there are laundromats that are closer, I decided to go to one on University in St. Paul, not too far from my psychotherapist's office. Not only is there an attendant here (well, there should be one; I don't see one here), but Wednesdays washes are a buck off, I think.
I have no frame of reference against which to judge this, of course, but so far, so good. It's big, there are many machines, I don't have to wait, and it seems clean. Parking spots are full, unfortunately, although that may be because enough people are taking advantage of two-dollar washes today/Wednesday. And I'm scared I will find a washer that inadvertently put in bleach so that my colored clothes come out all blotchy. Finally, as of right now, I haven't moved onto the dryer phase yet, so there still can be hiccups.
But so far, so good. This could be a lot worse, and therefore, it's not half-bad.

More Ailments
For the record, I want to let y'all know that I have this injury in my left wrist. The other day I was reaching in my car for something and I was pushing against it for some reason. That's when I felt a twinge in my wrist. I can't recall an incident where I would have jammed it to the point it hurt this much. But I can feel it, especially when I press on it.
And now -- well, yesterday (Tuesday) -- I have felt a poking, even tickling sensation in my right kidney area. Is my kidney failing?

With Two Weeks Off, What To Do?
When I learned that I likely will have the rest of this week and all of next week off -- well, unemployed -- I wasn't as anxious as I usually am. Maybe that's folly; after all, I need money, and beyond the paychecks I'm getting for working (more like showing up) last week and for the two Vikings games I worked, I have nothing else coming in.
However, this forced furlough gives me some time to do the things I should do and the things I want to do. It helps tremendously that my folks aren't here, at least not yet. Wth them gone I can putz around the house whenever I want and have the time and space to, for example, go through and throw my papers away, or maybe finally bag some of my Entertainment Weeklys for the first time in years. I went into storage and pulled out two bags; if I'm enterprising enough, I'll actually go through both of them.
And yet there are a lot of things I want to do that's pulling me out of the house. Having no work means I can see my shrink. I'm taking in an interview Thursday morning, even though it's not going to amount to much, seeing as I have a job (on a temporary basis, at least) in two weeks. I have time to exercise. I have time to go to my ladies and have sex with them. I have time to throw away, if I want to, and even though I know that's bad, I probably will.
My parents are supposed to come home next week. There will be a few days which overlap whereby they are home and I will still be unemployed. That is temporary since they will be leaving virtually straight away. Moreover, I actually welcome them home because the water pipe leaks are getting a lot worse. The tape isn't holding the pinhole leaks I see in that one section of pipe, and there are now really bad leaks springing from both water shutoff valves. Again, since I have so much time, I might get around to trying to fix them. Or I might continue to keep turning the water off and making sure there are pails and mops to collect the water when I turn the water on. Bought Shamwows too, so that should help with any huge messes.
So I guess what I'm saying is that right now I sort of am playing with house money. Will I maximize the time I have to myself? Probably not.

Hottest Babe In The Hooters Calendar: December
For my first blog post of 2018, I am going to talk about something that may not be very woke. But, hey, I gotta be me.
I bought a Hooters calendar a couple weeks ago because some of the Hooters waitresses in the calendar, including the pageant winner and the calendar cover girl, was doing a signing at the Megamall. I wanted to buy the 2017 calendar because there were three local waitresses who posed, but by the time I decided to shell out the, I think, $16 I think they were sold out. Not this time.
It's huge. And of course, once my parents come home I'll have to hide it. But every month, the two pages show a bunch of teeth and chips of Hooters waitresses -- photo, first name, and where she works. And after staring (but not masturbating) to them, I think I am going to celebrate the passing of each month by naming the best of that month.
There are a few months before, but since I bought it in December, I am starting there, no offense. Even though she is wearing a white one-piece (many of them are not wearing two-pieces, for some reason), the hazel eyes, the high cheekbones and the fake tits of Katie from Raleigh, N.C. bewitches me every time I see the calendar. Here's to you, Katie.
And we turn the page on the month, and the year.
