Meanwhile the Senate will probably remain 50/50. Nevada is too close to call and it looks as though Wisconsin is going to elect traitor Ron Johnson for Senate again (I wonder if Minnesotans look at what's happening in Wisconsin before they decide who to vote for), but it's looking more like Georgia will decide things. I didn't know till last/Tuesday night that if neither Rev. Raphael Warnock or Herschel Walker get 50% of the vote, there will be a runoff election next month to determine the winner. Like in 2018, control of the Senate may not be decided until The Peach State votes in December. Dems could still lose, but compared to the slaughter that many pundits predicted, we truly have spit in the face of expectations.
I may be even more overjoyed by my home state of Minnesota. Tim Walz and Peggy Flanagan very easily won the governor's and lieutenant governor's races. Then Secretary of State went to Steve Simon. State Auditor isn't official, but Julie Blaha is ahead. Finally -- and he's always the laggard because the Republicans always pick on the Muslim -- Keith Ellison is beating back his challenger for state Attorney General. I was very, very scared that DFLers wouldn't sweep the top executive jobs, but it looks like they will.
What is still very, very possible is control of the Minnesota Senate. According to one political reporter on Twitter, it is coming down to one district whose results probably won't be in until the morning. The DFL has retained the House. My God, if they get the Senate too ... man, there will be no gridlock and instead we'll have actual shit that gets done! By people who care about Minnesota, and are serious about working at the State Capitol, and actually have two brain cells that rub up against each other!
Yeah, the bottom line is Democrats can still lose legislative houses. But all in all, it was not the massacre we were led to believe. And there still is hope that the good guys will win in the end.
