The Weekly Minnesota Sports Survey

I need to make this is a super-short survey, because I'm stupid-crazy enough to drive all the way the fuck down to Fayetteville, Ark., to see this hot model serve me a mocha while wearing lingerie.  But they close at 7, and it'll take about 3 1/2 hours to get there.  That's why I have to rush through this.

#0: Gopher volleyball (Last Week: Positive Numbers).  A pair of sweeps was in order after going through four five-set victories in a row.  The second sweep they got lucky, though; Hawai'i's Nikki Taylor, the Big West Player Of The Year, stepped on a Gopher's foot in the fourth point of the game and was out for the rest of the match, presumably because of a torn ankle.  If that hadn't happened, who knows what would have happened?

Tonight they face the 15-seeded Missouri Tigers at the Pav, then tomorrow night they face either #7 North Carolina or #10 UCLA.  Provided they beat the Tigers tonight, of course.  I just have a bad feeling about this, which is why I'm not giving these guys Positive Numbers.

#-1: Gopher women's basketball (Last Week: -7).  Both b-ball programs in Dinkytown had undefeated weeks, but the women get the nod because they won more games, which included a pure road victory against New Mexico sandwiched inbetween home routs of Detroit and the Army.  This week they visit South Carolina -- a sure slaughter if there ever was one -- then host Belmont.

#-2: Gopher men's basketball (Last Week: -2).  If these guys are in NCAA consideration, their neutral site win over Vanderbilt should be something in their favor.  They also outlasted NJIT.  They continue their six-game homestand this week with contests vs. Georgia Southern, Northern Illinois and Long Island-Brooklyn.

#-3: Wild (Last Week: -3).  Lost to Calgary in shootout, beat Edmonton in Overtime, then outlasted Toronto.  This week: Home contests versus Edmonton, St. Louis and Florida before playing in Nashville Thursday.

#-4: Gopher men's hockey (Last Week: -1).  See, this is the reason why Don Lucia has so many haters.  Against a neglected Ohio St. program in Mariucci, they win 5-3 and they get trounced 8-3.  This week they are at Michigan St.

#-5: Timberwolves (Last Week: -4).  A victory in Overtime in Charlotte doesn't erase losses to New York, San Antonio and Toronto.  Some people are saying that Andrew Wiggins is a bust.  This screening week: Home to Detroit and Golden State before Head Coach Tom Thibodeau revisits his old stomping grounds in Chicago Tuesday.
