For the second week in a row, a kicker screws the pooch.
Last week it was Boise St.'s Kyle Brotzman who failed to make a field goal to win the game in regulation and again in double overtime that could've won the game versus Nevada, gave the Broncos a second consecutive undefeated regular season, and supplied more ammunition that they deserve to be in the Mythical National Championship Game.
Well, substitute "extra point" for "field goal," and "would've" for "could've," -- and x out everything after "won the game" -- and you have the plight of Alex Zendejas, second generation of a brotherhood of NFL kickers who seemingly doesn't have the ability that his forebearers do.
In Friday's Territorial Cup versus Arizona St., the PAT that should've given Arizona the lead in the fourth quarter was blocked by some guy leaping into the stratosphere; guess you can't blame Zendejas for that, or at least all of that. But the one in the second overtime, the one the Wildcats needed to send the game into a third overtime, was kicked low and thus easily deflected past the right goalpost. Watch it here.
Poor bastard.
